Belonging to the fraternity of twenty new government general degree colleges established in 2015, by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, Kabi Jagadram Roy Government General Degree College, Mejia (erstwhile Government General Degree College at Mejia), named after the saintly poet Jagadram Roy who belonged to this place, began its humble journey with one hundred and seventy seven students in 2015. As the college has stepped into the third year of its nascent journey, it has increased both in the number of students and in infrastructural developments such as building, library, laboratory, computer, internet, smart classroom and other facilities, in keeping with the growing demands of the modern education. The college offers courses in all the three basic disciplines- Arts, Science and Commerce with five subjects as B.A. Honours (Bengali, English, History, Philosophy and Economics) and one subject each in B.Sc Honours (Geology) and B. Com Honours (Accountancy). Apart from the subjects taught at the Honours level, the college also caters to the needs of teaching at the Pass level offering General/ Programme courses in Arts and Commerce disciplines. Presently, the college is affiliated both under The University of Burdwan and Bankura University with the first two batches of the students pursuing courses under the former and the third being taught in the CBCS system which Bankura University has introduced from this very year. Our college is one of the two Government General Degree Colleges situated in the district of Bankura .Moreover, as a constituent college of the Bankura University, it is the only institution to offer Geology as an Honours subject.  Most of the office work of the college is executed with the use of computers with a view to improve efficiency and reduce the use of papers to save environment. The college has adopted the policy of zero tolerance on the issue of sexual harassment and gender discrimination.

The college can boast of a sincere faculty who are involved in teaching as well as in different research activities to further their own knowledge and academic excellence in accordance with the spirit of higher education. Moreover, they engage themselves in different community activities for the betterment of the society such as gender sensitization programme, literacy drive and so on. The faculty members are thus devoted to the holistic development of the students so as to bring about the perfection already inherent in them, to echo the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. The college, therefore, aims to produce students who are intellectually bright, physically sound, morally upright, socially concerned, and spiritually enriched.

The institution is spread over a sprawling 5.42 acres of land where 1275.20 sq. m. of land is devoted to academic, administrative and student activity buildings while the rest offers open grounds for games and sports and campus garden where diverse species of trees have been planted to bedeck the college premises with lush verdure. The setting of the college is worth taking note too. Set by the side of wide NH 60 but conveniently a few yards away, the college ensures a smooth communication while avoiding the unwelcome noise and tremor. Steeped in the beauties of nature with the majestic Damodar on one side and serene, sylvan ambience all around, the college provides a salubrious setting for teaching and learning.

Kabi Jagadram Roy Government General Degree College nurtures the vision of excellence through continuous modernization of the teaching-learning process and relentless pursuits of other extra-curricular activities. With the generous support of the faculty members, office staff and other non-teaching staff, unflagging enthusiasm of the students, administrative and financial assistance from the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal and constant cooperation from all the stakeholders, the college aspires to emerge as one of the important institutions of higher education not merely in the locality but in the neighbouring districts as well in the years to come.
